Overcoming Intrusive Thoughts
Intrusive thoughts really are an absolute nightmare. It
doesn't matter what sort of thoughts they are as they range depending on what your particular fear or anxiety is at
the time. The only thing we really know when dealing with intrusive
thoughts is that the more attention you pay them the worse they
get.
It really is horrible thinking about awful things and not
being able to control them entering your mind. The more you think about them the worse the situation gets. Until
all of a sudden you cannot think about anything else apart from those intrusive thoughts.
Learning to shut your mind off and think positively about
things is something which needs to be learned over time. But don't worry you are not alone and this is quite common
to have these thoughts. It is just the way you are feeding them that causes all the problems. That is why I setup
my newsletter to help. You can find out more about it in the video below.

The biggest problem I ever had with intrusive thoughts was
with my family. I am really embarrassed to admit this but I believe that I am not the only person who has felt this
way and therefore guess this is my way of helping others when coping with intrusive thoughts too.
But when my first child was born - he had colic and used to
cry consistently all the time and through the night. I was exhausted and with having a high powered job at the time
it was very difficult to get on with life. I had a big breakdown and I started getting extremely irrational
intrusive thoughts that I wanted to hurt my family.
How could this be? I am one of the most caring people on the
planet and knew that I wouldn't ever hurt them. But the thoughts just went on and on. The doctor didn't really
listen to me and I would just think about it all the time. So the fear then became the fear in
itself.
Feeding intrusive thoughts
The problem is when you have anxiety and intrusive thoughts
then the anxiety tends to kick in at the same time. Here is what happens
In this case it is the "fight mechanism" that kicks in. You are
constantly thinking that you will "hurt your family" which is your body telling you to fight back against the
intrusive thoughts that you are getting.
The same could be that the "flight" mechanism would kick in too and that
you would take off first rather than hurting your family. Which is probably what would happen or your anxiety would
stop before you ended up doing anything disastrous about it.
I was reading a great book the other day about dealing with
intrusive thoughts and what it taught me was that we all have them. It is just most people do not feed them. When
you have anxiety you tend to feed the thoughts because you are in a general state of fear. Fear promotes fear and
therefore the anxiety gets worse.
What they were also saying is that if you plugged our minds
into a stereo and sat everyone in a room together that everyone would think that everyone else was mad!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just so true it is unreal.

A great book to help stop your intrusive thoughts
The book anyway is called The Untethered
Soul . You can get it at Amazon. It really opened my eyes to a lot of things about the way our minds think and how
everyone else's thinks too.
We really do not realise sometimes that anxiety and intrusive
thoughts can be controlled. The problem being however that you when you are anxious it is difficult to concentrate
on anything else but the anxiety.
You will probably find this yourself. When you think
"bad thoughts" then bad
things do tend to happen. When you think "positive
thoughts" then most things go well.
This is purely just a twist in your mindset to make sure that
you are filling your head with more good things than bad things. If you are finding that the intrusive thoughts are
taking over, then you need to replace it with something more positive.
It is not going to happen straight away and it will take time.
You cannot just switch it off. If you don't have a passion in life whether it is playing sport or a hobby. Then
take something up that you enjoy and can look forward too. Then when you are dealing with intrusive thoughts it
should be a lot easier to get them out of your mind.
I have a really big story to tell on panic attacks and
intrusive thoughts and if you
