How To Stop Worrying

mmm  How to stop worrying now that is a question. It can't be answered simply but there is definitely some logic that we can apply to it. Worrying is something we tend to do in general, whether it is about our kids, our job, exams etc. There is always something teetering on the edge to make you worry. After all if we didn't worry we wouldn't be human right.

How to Stop WorryingThe problem being however that if we worry too much, then it tends to have a negative impact and that is all we ever seem to do is worry instead. So let me give you some examples of how to stop worrying and see if they help.

I am a big animal lover and I know some of you guys probably aren't but instead of thinking about the cat, apply this to something that you love or care for instead. So here it is

My cat beaux came into the house one day, acting very strange, jumping around everywhere and he had some fur missing. No big deal I hear you say. But then he went missing for four days. Was I worried YES, but I continued to get on with things and keep my mind completely occupied.

I obviously went out looking for him a couple of times a day, calling him as you do. Nothing - did I worry yes - but I kept myself busy again thinking it is okay remain positive he will be back. Then one evening I called him and he called back to me!!! Great he was back. He seemed okay but his fur was still missing.

I took him to the vets who gave him a once over and noticed that he had a lump in his abdomen. Great did I worry well yes of course. The next thing was for him to have an xray - the xray showed that he had a large lump attached to his intestines.

CatThe vet operated with some dangers involved and removed part of his intestines and sowed them back up. Well the moral to the story is that I remained positive that he would be okay - Is he okay YES he is full of life and to be honest if he hadn't of gone missing we would never had noticed the tumour. So sometimes BLESSINGS come in disguise.

I refer to the worrying with what I call "what if's". Because the worry comes in and before you know it - it has expanded into something completely dramatic by your own doing. Let me explain with Beaux in mind

  • What if - he doesn't come back
  • What if - I can't find him
  • What if - I go out and he comes back injured
  • What if - the surgery goes wrong will I see him again
  • What if - he doesn't recover well and is in pain

Do you see what happens when you start worrying - yep you guess it - it spirals out of control before you know it. Now let me give you the opposite scenario of how to stop worrying

  • Blimey - Beaux is missing but that is okay it is usual for cats and he will be back soon.
  • He is still missing but it has only been 4 days he will come back very soon.
  • Yes Mrs Vet I trust my cat in your hands and that the best decision is to operate and I will help him recover.
  • Beaux will be back up on his feet in no time.

If you concentrate on the positives then nothing spirals out of control. When you concentrate on the negatives they will continue to spiral out of control.

I hope I have managed to get the message across in a simple way but my message always is " If you can stay positive and stop the what if's from happening then you will be far better off". Sounds easy I know and it is not and it takes time to condition yourself in order to do this.

But believe me worrying gets us nowhere. If you would like more helpful hints from me then please see my homepage where you can sign up to a completely free newsletter.

All the best Leigh x
