Caffeine and panic
attacks
When I first suffered from panic attacks it was as a result of
drinking caffeine. I had been out with my family and stayed in a hotel. Woke up the next day still feeling a little
drunk. Then went to the families house where I had a cup of coffee. All of a sudden my heart started racing and my
head was filled with intrusive thoughts. So caffeine and panic attacks for me do not go well
together.
As a result of the caffeine this particular panic attack led
to a four episode of absolute torture. Of which I wouldn't even want to go into. I wouldn't actually say that it
was completely down to the caffeine itself but the effect of making my heart race with the fact that I was
dehydrated anyway probably did the trick.
I stopped having coffee then as I was faced with driving
problems due to the panic attacks and was worried that it might be the coffee that was causing this. So rather than
look into it in more detail I just stopped.
The problem then began trying to identify where the panic
attacks came from. Well that is a long story really but was mainly down to stress and tiredness. Thinking too much,
a lot of pressure at home and at work. But I needed a solution and one fast and that is when I came across the
program below

It was everything I was looking for really as it went through
all the symptoms of panic attacks but also addressed the driving issues that I was having at the same time. Barry
explained the "fight" or "flight" mechanism really well. The program was mainly around inviting the panic attacks
in, rather than the usual trying to fight them off or completely hiding away from them.
After all there are a number of things you need to think about
with panic attacks and that is "dealing with them" and "getting rid of them".
The dealing with them part is addressed well by Barry's program and I highly recommend it. In the long term however I am a fond believer that
you have to change a lot of things in your "mind" so that the panic attacks do not take over your life. You can
find out more about that in my newsletter
As a coffee lover I can now say that I am back drinking it
with no ill effects at all. But that is after a long time learning to deal with caffeine and panic attacks. They
really are the worse thing that can happen to you. After all they come from nowhere and leave you with a fear that
they are going to come back at anytime in the future also.
If you do think that caffeine is bringing an onset to your
panic attacks then the best thing to do is "cut it out for a little while". Try to drink as much as 2 litres of
water a day to detoxify your system which should help.
A detox diet can sometimes be a good thing to rid your body of
all wanted toxins but takes some dedication in order to implement it. Try fruit juice also so that you are getting
your five a day in vitamins.
If your panic attacks are still happening after stopping
drinking coffee then make sure you check in with your doctor to see what can be done. After all panic attacks can
lead to additional stress and anxiety if it is not addressed quickly enough.
